Position Summary:

The Communications Manager (CM) will oversee all aspects of marketing and communications, manage individual donor cultivation, and assist with corporate sponsorship strategy. 

The CM is essential to the Union Project team, connecting UP and the community, building and strengthening relationships, and supporting program growth and UP’s brand. The CM also assists with aspects of program development, from creating and marketing the program to executing and documenting it. The CM helps to meet the organizational goals directed by the Capitalization Plan and fiscal year budget.

This is an in-person, non-remote position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing – 75%

  • Create, implement, and report on marketing strategies and promotional campaigns designed to grow earned revenue, donations, and strengthen UP’s brand and visibility.
  • Collect and create content (written, visual, and video) for use in e-newsletters, marketing campaigns, print collateral, social media, website, and calls for support. This may include interviews, program and event descriptions, and stories featuring community members. 
  • Coordinate (copy, design, production, and mailing) various communication pieces, including e-newsletters, donor communication, postcards, and other mailings. 
  • Maintain the CRM and manage all client data. 
  • Draft and issue press releases. Update and maintain a media list.  
  • Work with staff to coordinate data collection, entry, analysis, and database maintenance pertinent to programming, space rental, marketing efforts, and fundraising initiatives.  
  • Create, implement, evaluate, and update Union Project’s Communications/Engagement Plan.

Donor Cultivation – 25%

  • Create and implement UP’s individual donor cultivation plan. This includes managing all annual appeals, conducting donor interviews, and coordinating special events. 
  • Assist the Deputy Director with the implementation of the Corporate Sponsorship Strategy.
  • Work with the Deputy Director and CFO to build and monitor marketing and individual donor budget. 
  • Support additional development needs related to foundation requests, reports, and presentations.

Other

  • Participate in staff meetings as needed. (Staff meetings may occur in person, via phone, or video chat.)
  • Work with other program areas to ensure consistent, quality programming throughout the organization. This includes participating in Program Meetings, assisting with organizational events (Mother of All Pottery Sales, MLK Day, etc.), and collaborating with other staff. 
  • Other related duties may be assigned by the Deputy Director or Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience in a communications role.
  • Some individual donor cultivation experience is preferred. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization, project management, problem-solving, and delegation skills. 
  • Competent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Salesforce, and other databases. 
  • Keen attention to detail. 
  • Self-motivated and collaborative. Ability to work both independently and closely with others – staff, contractors, and volunteers – to achieve greater organizational success. 
  • Strong cultural competency and experience promoting inclusion and engaging diverse communities.
  • Commitment to cultivating relationships and community building through art.
  • Ability to work occasional weekday evenings and Saturdays (As needed for programs and committee meetings).

Salary and Benefits:

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. Salary range is $45,000 – $48,000 a year. Staff is paid via direct deposit. The benefits package for full-time employees includes:

  • Eligibility for health, dental, and vision coverage for yourself after completing the initial 90-day introductory period.
  • Eligibility for 18 days of Personal Time Off annually (PTO to accrue at 1.5 days per month worked) after the initial 90-day introductory period is completed.
  • 11 paid holidays (including 10 set holidays and 1 floating holiday).
  • Eligibility for remote work one day per week after completion of the initial 90-day introductory period.
