About the agency. Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (WC&S) is a comprehensive domestic violence program annually serving over 7,500 adult and child survivors of domestic violence & facilitating an intervention program to over 500 people who are abusive. We are advocates, grounded in fostering a community of safety, healing, and empowerment for anyone affected by domestic violence. About the role. As the Counselor & Graduate Counseling Supervisor, you will play a key role in the WC&S Wellness Team! You will provide emotional support, safety planning, and referrals to survivors of intimate partner violence while also teaching and supervising a team of graduate student interns to work alongside you. This role is based out of the WC&S Main Facility with some opportunities for remote work.

This role provides you with the opportunity to showcase your counseling, advocacy, and clinical supervision skills, and the ability to contribute to the organization’s mission in a variety of ways. The successful candidate will be eager to provide exemplary, trauma-informed services to survivors of intimate partner violence, have a Master’s Degree and social work or counseling license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and be passionate about learning and teaching. Here’s what you will do:

  • Provide direct service to residential clients, including referrals and emotional support and safety planning services
  • Offer supportive services to residential clients by assessing and offering support for their mental health and emotional needs related to the trauma they have suffered as a result of their victimization
  • Facilitate support groups for both residential and non-residential clients
  • Work with and supervise a team of graduate student interns in providing direct service and offering supportive services to residential and non-residential clients
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and provide ongoing and regular clinical and administrative supervision to a team of graduate student interns
  • Make appropriate referrals; coordinates residents’ psychological care with Psychiatric Nurse and Psychiatrist from WPIC
  • Provide emotional support and safety services to both residential and non-residential clients, such as crisis intervention and short-term individual counseling
  • Screens residential clients for future inclusion in non-resident support groups
  • Screens non-residential clients for support groups
  • Accurately enters all client data and reports in a timely manner
  • The position requires being available for 40 hours a week (exempt), typically Monday through Friday, with some evenings and weekends based on client and program need
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Here’s what we are looking for:

  • Master’s Degree and social work/counseling licensure (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) required
  • At least three years of direct service experience in human service agency required; experience in victim services preferred
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of mental health and drug and alcohol systems
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a team environment
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing demands and priorities
  • A demonstration of the understanding of abusive family dynamics, including intimate partner violence, cycle of abuse, power and control dynamic, cultural diversity issues, and child abuse and neglect
  • Ability to establish healthy boundaries, trust, respect and rapport with others
  • Ability to understand and adhere to strict confidentiality and safety procedures
  • Strong command of general technology, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite is required; familiarity and understanding of information technology, including Salesforce, Tableau, and Teams strongly preferred

  • Act 33/34 and FBI Clearances required
