Job Title: Family Engagement Specialist - Westmoreland

Job Purpose: The Family Engagement Specialist - Westmoreland works closely with the Implementation Specialist and school personnel and is responsible for developing family engagement opportunities and providing ongoing educational and enrichment programs. The Family Engagement Specialist is responsible for providing services to families in two separate school districts.

Principal (Essential) Duties

  • Plans, coordinates and implements high quality family engagement opportunities that help to inform and empower families in each of the schools served.
  • Collaborates with Implementation Specialist, school personnel, and community organizations in creating opportunities for parent/guardian involvement and inclusion in school events and activities that will benefit their children.
  • Helps to facilitate relationship between Implementation Specialist and the families of children being case managed.
  • Works closely with community organizations, family support centers and Parent-Teacher organization to connect and build relationships with families and the community.
  • Makes students and parents aware of instructional and motivational support that is available through the school and the community.
  • Becomes familiar with and utilize District and community intervention programs designed to address the academic, social, and emotional needs of at-risk students.
  • Assesses and identifies family needs and creates small group interventions to address those needs.
  • Serves as a liaison between the school and the families, and assists families in accessing information about rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Organizes monthly parent meetings to help them develop skills that improve student attendance and academics and family stability.
  • Develops relationships with stakeholders, community leaders, business owners, and parents that will provide support to District Initiatives.

Secondary Duties

  • Participates in required trainings as well as team and all-staff meetings.
  • Provides culturally competent and trauma-informed services to all students and families.
  • Develops metrics based on outcomes and projects deliverables in all phases of the position.
  • Participates in 40 hours annually of professional development opportunities relevant to position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience and knowledge equivalent to that gained from a Bachelor’s degree in the social services field required. Demonstrated related experience may substitute for preferred education.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in social services or a related field required.
  • Experience with engaging families and community organizations, building partnerships, and facilitating training and developing parent-friendly presentations.
  • Possess a passion for serving youth from diverse populations. Integrity, credibility and a commitment to and passion for CISPAC’s mission.
  • The ability to identify opportunities for supportive partnerships that will benefit students and their families, and the skills to execute these opportunities on the ground.
  • Commitment to developing strong collaborations to support families and a strong commitment to social change through family and community empowerment.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving and conflict management skills
  • An understanding of social service work, community organizing and advocacy.
  • Ability to engage families and the greater community. Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and collaborative partnerships.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to take initiative and handle situations with diplomacy.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and change, flexible working in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment.
  • Experienced in understanding and diffusing sensitive situations with a balanced approach to handling diverse populations and situations on a case-by-case basis.
  • Possess strong advocacy skills and exhibit excellent work habits.
  • Clearly and consistently represents CIS in all aspects of delivery of service to help promote CIS, our values and mission.
  • A strong commitment to accountability and data documentation.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands

  • 4-days/week working in the community, visiting families and building partner collaborations. One-day per week at central office to complete documentation and other duties.
  • Travel up to 75% for home visits, partner collaboration meetings, and job related tasks.
  • Evening and weekend hours are probable.
  • Perform light work – exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Must have a valid PA driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing to use personal cell phone when working remotely.
