North Side Christian Health Center (NSCHC) is seeking a Development Director, who is a key member of the Executive Team, serves as an advisor to the CEO and collaborates directly with the Board of Directors. In this position you have oversight for securing financial contributions in support of our mission, for individual donor cultivation, engaging in communication and outreach, and for special event implementation. The development plan must include traditional and innovative strategies. Position will include local travel to meet with partners. Preference given to candidates with demonstrated experience with capital campaigns and collaboration with Pittsburgh’s philanthropic community.


Fundraising & Development

  • Collaborates with the Chief Executive Officer, the executive team and the Board of Directors to develop short and long-term goals for raising funds and designs a plan to achieve them.
  • Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors; evaluates opportunities to establish an endowment
  • Manages grant seeking, including research, proposal writing and reporting requirements for foundation gifts/grants.
  • Manages the donor database—serves as lead contact for both individual and congregational donors and is responsible for donor relations.
  • Together with Finance Director, manages gift processing, accounting and donor acknowledgements
  • Actively develops and maintains relationships with people and organizations that may support and/or partner in mission with NSCHC
  • Functions as a member of the senior leadership team and advisor to Chief Executive Officer; attends weekly meetings to with the CEO and Executive team.

Communications & Marketing

  • Collaborates with CEO and Marketing & Developing Committee to manage a marketing strategy designed to grow the NSCHC brand and expand donor base and increase patient volumes; this includes social media, advertising, distributing of newsletters, annual reports, brochures and other promotional materials
  • Proposes, plans and implements fundraisers and donor events.
  • Serves as the liaison between community partners and the COO to handle requests for NSCHC to support community events


  • Strong interpersonal skills; willingness to leave the office, travel locally and build external relationships
  • Excellent writing skills; proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Be a ‘self-starter’ and goal driven to initiate donor visits
  • Exceptional organizational skills and exhibit ‘follow-through’ on tasks and goals
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Demonstrates presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability


  • Must embrace the mission of North Side Christian Health Center.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Fundraising, Development, Management, Business Administration or other related field, master’s preferred.
  • Five years of demonstrated experience in fundraising, including solicitation of major gifts and leading or contributing to a capital campaign (required).
  • Three years of experience in grant-writing with record of success (required)
  • Two years of experience in marketing and communications (preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community-based health care industry (preferred).
