The ACLD Tillotson School was founded in 1972 by a not-for profit corporation, The Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities, Incorporated. Located in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh, the ACLD Tillotson School serves students ages 5 to 21 and school districts throughout a seven-county region. The school is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Academic Schools and is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the Bureau of Special Education (BSE) to provide support and services to students with disabilities above and beyond those available in traditional classrooms. With highly specialized and individualized programs, students with complex learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders are met with success.

The Board of Directors is currently seeking applicants to fill its existing board vacancies.  While the board is open to receiving applications from individuals with various backgrounds and levels of experience, there is a heighten interest in identifying applicants with the following specialized skills/background:

  • Finance
  • Fundraising/Development
  • Public Relations/Media

Current responsibilities of board members include the following:

  • Providing financial oversight of the budget to ensure continued fiscal responsibility and monitoring financial growth and development consistent with established goals and objectives.
  • Ensuring legal and ethical integrity and maintaining accountability.
  • Understanding and promoting the organization’s mission
  • Serving as an ambassador to the program, the students and families it serves
  • Ensuring effective organizational planning
  • Recruiting and orienting new Board members and assessing Board performance;
  • Enhancing the organization’s public standing.
  • Supporting and monitoring the Executive Director and his/her performance according to established objectives.

Additional commitments required of the Board include possessing the ability to attend six meetings annually that are held bimonthly, making annual contributions and attending school and fundraising events.
