Help Us Change Lives: Auberle Seeks 412 Youth Zone Education Coordinator for Transition Age Youth

Auberle’s staff is comprised of passionate individuals who are committed to finding the most innovative ways to solve our community’s most difficult problems. Youth aging out is a critical population in our society that had suffered from extremely poor outcomes. Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) decided to make a significant change in its service delivery to this population and to expand it to include homeless youth, all through a One Stop Center based in Wood Street Commons in downtown Pittsburgh. We envision that this new, innovative approach will be become the national standard. The 412 Youth Zone offers comprehensive, welcoming, and youth oriented services and space for transition age youth with current or past connections to child welfare or who are experiencing homelessness. The 412 Youth Zone helps youth to feel welcomed, safe, and supported while offering the services and connections to help them face the challenges of adulthood.
We are currently seeking a motivated and creative Education Coordinator to be an educational resource to 16-23-year-old young people at the 412 Youth Zone. The position requires the ability to work independently, engage with youth at various educational levels, provide structure, and advance youth educational goals through instruction and advocacy. This position will facilitate GED classes and provide GED instruction, train and supervise volunteer tutors, and undertake a variety of other responsibilities as assigned, such as designing and implementing educational themed IL programming. In addition, qualified candidates will be proficient at leading youth clubs and groups, and capable of collaborating with partners and outside agencies such as the Remake Learning Network. The Education Coordinator’s ability to communicate and partner with transition-age youth is critical to the success of the program. This position provides service year–round and across educational settings and programs.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in related field taught; PA Public School or Private Academic Teaching Certification; and one experience working with children and youth. A very flexible schedule, valid driver’s license and vehicle are mandatory. Must be 21 years of age or older and required to apply for Act 33/34 clearances (criminal and child abuse) as well as FBI clearance. Pre-employment drug screening and random employment drug screening required.
