Job Summary

The Cleveland Institute of Art invites applications for the position of Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship. The Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship reports to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement and the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and External Relations. The Director will oversee the responsibilities of the Database Specialist and work closely with staff from other departments, including the Business Office, to ensure the efficient and accurate processing of donations and memberships. Responsibilities include planning, implementing and overseeing a comprehensive annual giving program to attract broad support for CIA. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong team orientation, and the ability to develop a superb and efficient donor and stewardship program that will greatly impact CIA.

Reports To

Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement and the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and External Relations

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute all donor recognition and cultivation events to support needs of the fundraising operation
  • Regularly correspond with donors and prospective donors on behalf of the College and provide effective stewardship of existing donors.
  • Oversee and monitor the work of the Database Specialist in ensuring that donor and member records are current and accurate.
  • Produce donor reports for major campaigns and special fundraising projects, including schedule of individual pledge payments and reminders
  • Monitors the fulfillment of donor’s wishes and ensures successful internal communication within and outside the Office of Institutional Advancement
  • Oversee gift processing and database functions to ensure consistent, high-quality interactions between CIA and all of its donor segments
  • Event planning includes, but is not limited to: coordinating retrieval of mailing list and invitation production; determining and coordinating Institutional Advancement staffing needs for events; drafting speaker remarks and briefings; and conducting event follow-up activities.
  • Serves as a prospect manager to develop cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned donors in the $500 – $5,000 range, as well other prospects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Database skills required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Raiser’s Edge fundraising software preferred
  • Experience managing professional staff in an advancement operation
  • Excellent knowledge of fundraising ethics and best practices with regard to gift processing and honor relations
  • Bachelor’s degree; Minimum of five years of experience in the development department of an educational institution or other nonprofit organization

Compensation

This is a full-time exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Cleveland Institute of Art offers a benefit package including; vacation, sick, personal time accrual as well as additional time off while the college is closed during winter break; health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, 403B retirement contribution, tuition remission, free campus parking, and inter-museum council discounts.
