Position Summary

The Community Outreach Coordinator is a full-time 40 hour-per-week salaried position. The Community Outreach Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for FCC & PHCC outreach and recruitment of volunteers, members, and neighbors in Perry Hilltop and Fineview.


The Community Outreach Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are to build meaningful and strategic relationships with neighbors, organize community meetings and events, coordinate our Millennial Board, and manage communications in order to further the goals of our Community Plan.

Major Focus Areas

Community Outreach and Recruitment

  • Work with Executive Director and board to create Annual Outreach Plan
  • Implement Annual Outreach Plan

Relationship Building/Community Organizing (Work with AmeriCorps VISTA)

  • Get to know and build the leadership of board members, members, block captains, volunteers, and other neighborhood residents (i.e. individual one-on-one meetings, door knocking, phone calls, texting, emailing, etc.)
  • Recruit people into activities related to our Community Plan

Organize Community Meetings and Events

  • Staff the Events Working Group (i.e. schedule, facilitate, ensure goals are reached)
  • Create flyers, marketing materials for meetings and events
  • Turn residents out for meetings and events (Work with AmeriCorps VISTA)
  • Identify volunteers, purchase food, get donations, line up speakers and vendors, and secure space and permits for meetings and events
  • Event examples:
    • Fineview BBQ
    • Community Clean-ups
    • Fineview Step Challenge
    • Informal events neighbors host

Coordinate the Millennial Board

  • Staff the Education Working Group (i.e. schedule, facilitate, ensure goals are reached)
  • Coordinate the recruitment and continued participation of mentors and mentees
  • Update the webpage, use social media
  • Directly contact mentors, mentees, their families, and partners
  • Schedule and plan meetings and events
  • Host Monthly Millennial Board Meetings with youth and mentors
  • Identify meeting presenters, potential volunteer service opportunities, and field trip options
  • Help facilitate youth-led community projects

Recruit Members and Board Members (Work with AmeriCorps VISTA)

  • Recruit organizational members through surveying, meetings, and mailings
  • Build board member pipeline by providing leadership opportunities to residents

Manage Communications

  • Manage social media and send monthly e-newsletter
  • Update websites
  • Design flyers and brochures for meetings and events
  • Manage mailing list and bulk mailings

Build Partnerships

  • Participate at key city and non-profit groups to promote our work and connect to larger efforts
  • Maintain relationships with collaborative partners and cultivate new ones

Affect Policy

  • Participate in citywide policy discussions
  • Engage residents in policy conversations and advocacy, as needed

Manage Volunteers (Work with AmeriCorps VISTA)

  • Recruit new volunteers in line with organizational goals and objectives
  • Track the participation of volunteers by type of activity, dates, number of hours, etc. by using sign-in sheets and database
  • Recruit, place, retain, and support ALL volunteers
  • Create, coordinate, and implement volunteer recognition activities (e.g. Annual Holiday Party and
  • Volunteer Appreciation Event). These activities include:
  • Conduct and compile annual volunteer satisfaction survey
  • Coordinate and promote annual volunteer appreciation events



  • Help complete creation and utilize a new and improved database to track engagement
  • Update database to reflect membership changes, attendance at meetings and events, and volunteer participation in a timely manner

Staff Reports

  • Submit monthly report of activities to supervisor by the 5th of the month. Submit more frequent reports as needed

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum two years experience in successful community outreach/recruitment and volunteer coordination
  • Relationship Building
  • Connection to Perry Hilltop, Fineview, the Northside (encouraged)
  • Experience working in communities of color and with people of different backgrounds
  • Ability and interest in frequently engaging with people, including knocking on doors and talk on the phone
  • Ability and interest in connecting with all different types of people (i.e. ability to remember things about them, discern their interest, and plug them into a task or experience
  • Community organizing experience (encouraged)
  • Ability to work with young people (ages 12-22)
  • Ability to support, network with, and motivate volunteers and members
  • Enthusiasm about building community


  • Team player (i.e. kind, respectful, humble, trustworthy, communicates and builds relationships with team)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work from home and remotely

Office Skills

  • Ability to use volunteer-tracking databases

  • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheets (Microsoft Office/Google Docs)

Essential Functions/Working Conditions

  • Moderate physical demands
  • Must be able to work under stress of meeting deadlines and changing priorities
  • Able to manipulate normal business machines and technology. For example: able to operate computer and computer systems, office copiers, phones, etc.
  • Ability to use or learn WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, Google Docs, and other technological tools
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience; health care stipend provided
