The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that protects and restores the natural and built environments through innovation, collaboration, education and advocacy. PEC has four regional offices across Pennsylvania and actively engages in projects and policy initiatives that promote land and water-based recreational opportunities, protection and conservation of water resources, promotion of forward-thinking energy and climate approaches, and sustainable development of communities and landscapes.

Position Summary:

The Grants and Fundraising Manager is a full-time, exempt position that will primarily be responsible for managing all of PEC’s grants as well supporting efforts to achieve PEC’s overall fundraising goals. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to learn from the existing Development Manager for approximately six months. The Grants and Fundraising Manager reports directly to PEC’s President.

Position Activities:

  • Lead the grant proposal process while collaborating with other PEC staff to create compelling funding requests.
  • Maintain and grow a portfolio of current and prospective funders.
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with funding sources.
  • Maintain a calendar of grant activities to include application/proposal due dates, reporting deadlines and renewals.
  • Work with PEC program staff to delegate and track grant deliverables.
  • Ensure all grant reporting deadlines are met and proofread/revise all grant reports prior to submission.
  • Oversee PEC’s membership campaign and ensure the donor database is properly maintained. It is anticipated that this will take effect in the 2nd year of employment.
  • Liaison with Charity Navigator and other charity rating agencies to ensure that PEC remains in good standing.
  • Participate in Board Development Committee meetings and communicate key grant and fundraising information.
  • Support PEC’s fundraising events including solicitation of sponsorships and other development activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.
  • Three to five years’ experience with foundation and government fundraising.
  • Understanding of development, with a demonstrated record of successful grant writing.
  • Experience with prospect research.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Proficiency with Abila software is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Experience with budgeting and budget development is preferred.
  • Ability to develop and cultivate relationships.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, or in locations other than Pittsburgh, as reasonable and necessary for performance of Position Activities.
  • Passion for the environment, sustainable development, and Pennsylvania.

Compensation:

This is a salaried position commensurate with experience within a range of $50,000 to $65,000 annually and includes an attractive benefits package (medical benefits, vacation, holidays, 403(b), life insurance, et cetera).

Location:

The Grants and Fundraising Manager will be based in PEC’s Pittsburgh office but will have the flexibility to work remote part of the time. Occasional travel to other locales in the region and state will be required.
