Position Summary

The Accountant Level 9 is responsible for the Fixed Asset Accounting and related inventory of the School District of Pittsburgh, strictly adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and federal guidelines, in conjunction with the District’s established policies.


Support Exempt Salary Schedule (Starting at $43,090.80)

  • Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or Public Administration with at least 24 credits in academic accounting courses
  • Three years of experience managing Fixed Asset accounting systems and inventories preferred
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Manual of Accounting and Related
  • Financial Procedures for Pennsylvania School Systems and the Single Audit Act.
  • City of Pittsburgh Residency Required

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in the responsibility for coordination, accuracy and completeness of the Fixed Asset accounting function.
  • Provides external auditors with detail and back-up utilized during the annual Single Audit.
  • Provides support to the Financial Services Manager and Director of Finance, along with all other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Performs physical inventory on all equipment in all classroom district wide several times per year.

Additional Job Information:

Physical Demands: This position will involve the employee to access equipment to complete inventory. Employee will need to have the ability to move computers from one location to another and reach items above the shoulder level. The physical demand of sight is also essential in this position.
Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork.

  • Indoors in busy office, working in close proximity to co-workers.
  • Frequently required to work at fast pace.
  • Requires considerable concentration and creativity.
  • Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.
