Independent public media for the Mon-Yough area

Community news is the bedrock of democracy—and it’s in trouble.

We could complain—or we could try to do something positive.

We’re the publisher of Tube City Almanac, a non-profit news website focused on the McKeesport area, and we are in need of freelance writers to help us cover the City of Duquesne, McKeesport Area Schools, Duquesne Schools and White Oak Borough.

These are communities full of great people, and they need their stories to be told.

We pay $50 for each story, plus expenses. We can also work with students who need internship credit.

You must have reliable transportation, and you must be reliable yourself. You need to commit to attending at least one meeting per month (usually at night) and producing a story from it.

Additional feature stories are welcome and payment is made on publication.

To apply, send your name, phone number, and two writing samples (or links to two writing samples).

Tube City Community Media Inc. is an equal opportunity organization and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status.
