The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) is seeking a Director of Development for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging to join a progressive team within our Individual Giving Department. Flexible hybrid and/or remote work opportunities may be available for this position.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Individual Giving, Schools and Centers, this position will serve as a member of the Individual Giving leadership team with top-line responsibility for fundraising targeted towards promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging at Pitt.
The successful candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive plan and strategies to drive engagement and fund raising among diverse constituencies broadly construed, including BIPOC communities, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, veterans, and first-generation students with focus on participation, pipeline development, and major gifts fund raising. They will also partner with PAA, OEDI, Student Affairs, schools and centers on alumni engagement and fund raising strategies as part of the larger Pitt/PAE to-be-developed comprehensive DEIB plan, and serve as content expert and thought leader on DEIB fund raising.
PAE cultivates relationships with contributors, alumni, and other constituents on behalf of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC, generating support for teaching, research, and care. As the hub for development and alumni relations efforts, PAE contributes to a bold, vibrant, and diverse academic community.
Primarily, we focus on:
- Philanthropy to the University and UPMC which drives innovation and enhances opportunities for students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians.
- Alumni relationships expressed across a community of 318,000 alumni spanning the globe.

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. 7+ years of fund raising or comparable experience required. Must include work in frontline fund raising capacity and demonstrated ability to cultivate and secure major gifts (ideally at the $100K+ level).
Strong project management skills; strategic planning and program development experience; Superior communication skills, both interpersonal as well writing; familiarity with digital engagement tools and social media communication strategy. Strong interpersonal relationship building skills; ability to navigate complex, decentralized environments, building and maintaining strategic partnerships.
