The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement is seeking a Director of Development to join a progressive team within our Individual Giving Health Sciences Department. Flexible hybrid and/or remote work opportunities may be available for this position. The Director of Development, Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, (TESTI) UPMC/University of Pittsburgh will have day-to-day responsibility for the development, fundraising, and fundraising event activities for TESTI. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for Academic and Clinical Medicine, the director will lead the effort to expand the development programs for the TESTI program/division. Particular emphasis will be placed on development/implementation of comprehensive fundraising strategies, prospect research and identification, cultivation and solicitation of grateful patients, friends and organizations, of major and philanthropic gifts for the TESTI. The incumbent will create strategic development plans for short- and long-term fundraising initiatives and goals. The director must possess a demonstrated ability to write and submit proposals that are successfully funded. The director will have experience in successfully soliciting and closing gifts from grateful patients.

Bachelor’s required, masters desired, relevant experience will be considered. 7 years of major gift experience with some demonstrated success in soliciting grateful patients. Understanding of basic scientific research and medical research. Ability to take scientific material and translate into lay terms.A background in medical education or clinical experience is desired. Public speaking, strategy development, marketing/communications, integrity, motivation, adaptability. A current TB test and drug screen will be required as a condition of employment.
