The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement is seeking a Senior Writer and Communications Manager, Health Sciences to join a progressive team within our Communications and Donor Relations Department. The Senior Writer and Communications Manager, Health Sciences serves as a lead writer and supports fundraising, engagement, and communications efforts for the division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE). The incumbent, part of PAE’s integrated Communications and Donor Relations group, reports to the Director of Communications for Health Sciences. The Senior Writer and Communications Manager focuses on mission critical projects supporting both the University and UPMC, engaging audiences such as the 47,000 alumni of Pitt’s six health sciences schools, more than 9,000 former residents and fellows, and 17,000 UPMC grateful patients.

The incumbent will support annual fundraising efforts, which exceed $1 million collectively through more than 90 solicitations per year, and other vehicles of giving. Primary responsibilities include creating cases for major and principal giving (typically at the $1 million+ level), articles and newsletters, and stewardship and impact collateral. Ongoing responsibilities include managing complex marketing and communications projects from inception to completion and maintaining strong relationships with multiple clients and vendors. Experience with writing, editing, and gathering information in a complex organization required. Prefer experience with direct marketing and email marketing for higher education and/or non-profit organizations. Must possess exceptional project management skills, a strong service orientation, and a highly collegial and collaborative approach in meeting the marketing and communications needs of clients.

Bachelor’s degree required along with at least 5 years of communications experience.
