The Communications & Marketing Intern will support the mission of the WCDC by assisting with external communications, press relations, marketing activities, grant writing, event planning, and other administrative tasks, as needed. The Communications & Marketing Intern is a part-time, hourly position that may require attendance at some WCDC staff and committee meetings and events. This position reports to the Office & Communications Manager and Director of Economic Development.

Type: Part-time, temporary internship, not to exceed 25 hours per week, flexible start/end dates

Compensation: $15/hour

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Communications & Marketing

  • Create content for WCDC email blasts, community newsletter, and other print and electronic marketing materials, which may include advertisements, advertorials, case studies, flyers, and posters.
  • Create content for WCDC social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Update website with current program information and events.
  • Write press releases and help further relationships with press.

Grant Writing

  • Draft letters of inquiry, grants, proposals, and/or reports for submission to funders.
  • Research potential funders, including foundation, corporate, social/religious, and government entities.

Event Planning

  • Help coordinate the monthly Summer at the Station event series, including promoting the series and supporting the events day-of.
  • Assist with smaller events and meetings throughout the summer, as needed.

Organizational Support

  • Assist with day-to-day administrative/office tasks, e.g. responding to phone calls, emails, and walk-ins, as needed.
  • Attend staff, board, and/or committee meetings, as needed.


The ideal candidate for this internship is enrolled in a post-secondary program with a concentration in communications, marketing, public and professional writing, or related field. Candidate must have excellent writing and communication skills, experience using design and email marketing software (e.g. Adobe CC, Canva, Constant Contact) and social media platforms, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
