The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches is a non-profit, ecumenical organization committed to helping those in need since 1958. We serve the Allegheny Valley community and beyond with several programs designed to meet the needs of people experiencing unemployment, poverty and crisis. We also offer programs that provide spiritual enrichment. All programs and services are offered without regard to religious affiliation. AVAC Programs & Services include a weekly food bank, as well as a monthly mass food distribution. For families with children who are experiencing homelessness we offer a shelter program that provides more than a safe place to stay. Our Basic Needs Financial Assistance program helps with rent or utility arrears, transportation needs, and more. Our Sparrows Nest is a free store where people can shop for clothing or other household items at no cost. We offer a self-sufficiency case management program designed to provide whole family care with an emphasis on gaining their greatest level of self-sufficiency through education, job training and sustainable employment. And our permanent supportive housing program provides stable housing, case management, and supports for individuals and families that are experiencing homelessness and has at least 1 disabled member in the household.
