About Us: The Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) is a grassroots organization whose mission is to bring the community, institution stakeholders, and government officials into a working relationship to put an end to racial profiling, police brutality, and injustice within the criminal legal system through advocacy, education, and policy. Position: APA is seeking qualified, passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors. Board members are responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance, and oversight to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and maintains financial sustainability. Board members collaborate with fellow directors, executive leadership, and stakeholders to guide the organization’s long-term success. While we welcome applicants from various backgrounds and with a range of experiences, we are especially in need of board members with the following skill sets:
● Event Planning
● Finance and Accounting
● Fundraising and Development
● Human Resources
● Marketing and Public Relations
Key Responsibilities:
● Participate actively in board meetings
● Provide informed input on strategic decisions
● Ensure the organization’s financial health by overseeing budgets and finances
● Support and evaluate the President/CEO
● Serve as an ambassador and advocate for APA’s mission, vision, and values
● Monitor organizational policies and legal compliance
● Serve on standing and/or ad hoc committees
● Contribute to fundraising efforts and resource development
● Assess board performance and participate in recruitment
Qualifications:
● Prior experience in leadership, governance, or nonprofit management preferred
● Prior experience with activism and community engagement preferred
● Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills
● Financial literacy and understanding of nonprofit budgeting and fundraising
● Commitment to the organization’s mission and values
● Ability to dedicate time for meetings and events
Commitment Expectations:
● Attend monthly board meetings
● Participate in committee work and organizational events
● Provide an annual contribution to the organization
