Position Title: Senior AccountantLocation: Pittsburgh, PA; On-site 4 days per week, Remote 1 day per week
Employment Type: Full-Time
Organizational Overview: Based in Pittsburgh, The Dietrich Foundation (TDF) was established by William S. Dietrich II and principally funded from proceeds of the sale of Dietrich Industries in 1996. Following Mr. Dietrich’s passing in October 2011, TDF was formed and ultimately funded with ~$550 million of assets in January 2013. Its principal mission is to provide ongoing and increasing financial support to selected institutions of higher education and other predefined non-profits in Western Pennsylvania. The growth engine of TDF’s assets continues to be its significant allocation to a top-tier, global private equity and venture capital investment portfolio, with an emphasis on investments in emerging markets.
Position Description: Working closely with TDF’s Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in executing the daily financial operations and accounting functions of TDF, as well as support its annual external audits and tax preparation. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Enters data in order to prepare financial reporting and performs monthly and quarterly reconciliations of capital calls and distributions, and quarterly valuation reports within a complex investment structure
· Assists the Controller with external audit management and coordination:
– Provide information requested by external auditors
– Prepare required confirmations
– Answer questions posed by external auditors
· Assists the Controller with preparation of audited financial statements and all required disclosures, as well as annual reporting to the Foundation’s supported organizations
· Prepares Board meeting materials, as requested, and attends meetings
· Prepares accounting and tax schedules and reconciliations related to Forms 990 and 990-T for internal and external review
· Responsible for the collection and follow up on federal and state Schedule K-1’s, foreign reporting forms and all other relevant tax related information and forms
· Prepares and executes banking functions, such as checking and wire transfers
· Assists with special projects as needed
Minimum Education/Experience/License/Certifications: Undergraduate degree in accounting and at least 2 to 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in public accounting, an investment office, university endowment, or large foundation; a current license as a certified public accountant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is preferred but not required. Some experience with financial securities/investments, non-profit accounting, and tax reporting requirements related to international investing would each be considered a plus.
Necessary Skills:
- Required skills include extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and Quickbooks Online.
- Required skills also include: (1) Excellent written and verbal skills; (2) the ability to work effectively both on an independent basis and within a professional team environment; and (3) outstanding interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
- A successful candidate must possess very high standards of professional ethics and integrity, as well as demonstrate passion for an organization that is fast-paced and entrepreneurial.
