For over thirty-three years, the Extra Mile Education Foundation has provided choice to families in Pittsburgh communities in search of outstanding elementary education. With our support, select parochial schools serving primarily African American students have thrived. They offer opportunity to families where options are otherwise limited. Over the years, our school names and locations have changed, but since our inception, our mission has remained the same: to provide the children of under-resourced families the opportunity to receive a foundational education grounded in tradition, values, and academic rigor to prepare them for successful academic futures.  Presently, the Foundation supports St. Benedict the Moor in the Hill District, Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Academy in Wilkinsburg, and Northside Catholic Assumption Academy in Brighton Heights.
