Jobs at Flamenco Pittsburgh
Creating awareness and appreciation for flamenco music, song, and dance
Founded in 2002 by Carolina Loyola-Garcia and Rocio Nogales, Flamenco Pittsburgh introduced flamenco music, song, and dance to the Pittsburgh area. When Rocio Nogales returned to Europe in 2004, Loyola-Garcia took on the roles of Artistic and Executive Director, and steadily grew a loyal audience through performances, classes, and community outreach.
Since it began, Flamenco Pittsburgh has brought a unique style of performance to the city, adding to Pittsburgh’s cultural diversity. Over time, it has evolved to be a cultural hub for a vibrant, inclusive community of students, performers, and audiences interested in global culture. The organization celebrates flamenco’s ability to express deep emotions, build confidence, and connect people from different backgrounds.
PROGRAMMING & IMPACT
In 2025, our first year as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we produced seven ticketed shows for more than 830 people, hosted seven guest artists from around the country, and featured Flamenco Pittsburgh ensemble performers and 23 students in our events. Grants from major foundations (The Pittsburgh Foundation, Opportunity Fund, and Arts, Equity, & Education Fund), support from partners like Duolingo, and fundraising via a growing group of major donors enabled us to produce our first season, establish organizational infrastructure, reach new audiences, and build a strong base for sustained growth.
FLAMENCO PITTSBURGH TODAY
Flamenco Pittsburgh’s programs honor flamenco’s origins in Spain’s Romani culture and the rhythms of other marginalized groups, including Jewish, North African, Indian, and Islamic cultures. Our shows, workshops, and lectures welcome people from both Hispanic and non-Hispanic backgrounds.
- Our community classes create a setting for expression and connection for everyone interested in flamenco.
- We produce traditional live flamenco shows in theaters and perform at festivals, fundraisers, and community and private events.
- We bring live flamenco to K-12 schools, helping students learn about its history through lecture-demonstrations.
- We work with musicians and singers from different genres, helping to connect and grow the community of professional artists in Pittsburgh and beyond.
