The Pittsburgh Fisher House is one of 95 comfort homes in the US and abroad that offers free lodging to the families and caregivers of veterans who are receiving treatment at a VA or military medical facility. The 10-suite Pittsburgh Fisher House is situated on the campus of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in Oakland. The Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House (FOPFH) is a local 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides support to the Pittsburgh Fisher House. The FOPFH mission is to ease the burden of our veterans and their families during difficult times. To do this, FOPFH raises funds from the local community to support and supplement the general operations of the existing Pittsburgh Fisher House and its guests including providing all food, transportation vouchers, and other amenities for families staying in the house. Additionally, FOPFH is actively engaged in a capital campaign to build a second 16-suite Pittsburgh Fisher House in O’Hara Township, with a scheduled groundbreaking in 2025.
