The Hebrew Free Loan Association of Pittsburgh (HFLA) provides interest-free loans to help individuals and families achieve financial stability and pursue opportunities regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender expression, disability, past incarceration, or immigration status. HFLA is based on the Jewish belief not to charge interest to someone in need. One of the country's original microlenders, HFLA makes loans up to $10,000 to people who live in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, Westmoreland and Armstrong counties in Southwestern PA and have a source of income that can afford to include the monthly loan repayment.
For more than 138 years, HFLA has been making interest-free loans and providing a hand up to people in need for a range of reasons, including but not limited to home repairs, vehicle purchases, credit card consolidation, adoption or fertility expenses, medical or dental expenses, tuition, legal fees, small business expenses, weddings, funerals, summer camps, etc. HFLA does not make loans to help with rent, monthly bills or utilities, to pay off other type of loans, for cash flow, or for luxury items like jewelry or travel.
HFLA is proud to serve people from across the region who may need a hand up, and values each person and their dignity, prioritizes confidentiality, and does not discriminate, or tolerate antisemitism or hate of any kind.
