With a mission to empower children with disabilities to live life to the fullest, Variety the Children’s Charity provides life-changing mobility and communication equipment to ensure our most vulnerable kids are no longer left out, behind, or excluded.
Children with disabilities face a host of challenges and obstacles that are often unrecognized to those without disabilities. No child should be denied the opportunity to have typical childhood experiences simply because they have a disability, but Variety’s programs provide kids with transformative equipment that’s made for them.
Variety offers three adaptive equipment programs for eligible kids and families to apply for one, two, or all three pieces of equipment:
Variety’sMy Bike®Program provides new Rifton adaptive bikes (including stationary stands and prescribed accessories) to eligible children with disabilities, so they can experience the joy, freedom, and belonging from riding a bike – including the therapeutic and recreational benefits.
Variety’sMy Stroller®Program provides Convaid EZ Rider adaptive strollers to eligible kids with disabilities to increase their mobility, inclusion, and safety - especially for ambulatory kids living with elopement issues and no safety awareness. An adaptive stroller allows for easier “on-the-go” mobility and participation in daily activities for the child and their whole family.
Variety’sMy Voice®Program provides a communication device (i.e., a restricted iPad with a prescribed communication app) to eligible children who are nonverbal (or have a communication disorder) to ensure they are never without a voice.
New applications are accepted all-year-long for eligible children through 59-counties in PA and Ohio County, WV, and equipment is presented regionally on a first come, first served basis.
Since November 2012, Variety has presented more than 7,100 adaptive bikes, adaptive strollers, and communication devices (worth more than $10.8 million in equipment).
