Founded in the early 2000s in Berlin, Violence Prevention Network has grown to represent one of Europe’s largest civil society organizations working on preventing and countering violent extremism. Over 120 staff members work in 10 regional offices across Germany, which include researchers and trained P/CVE specialists. As a result of VPN Germany‘s impactful work with violent extremist and terrorist offenders in prison, VPN succeeded in shifting Germany’s prison-system to include the VPN approach as an essential component of countering and preventing violent extremism. In late 2022, Violence Prevention Network USA, Inc. (VPN USA) was incorporated in the United States to transfer methods and approaches, which have been successful in Germany in supporting individuals to distance themselves from violent extremist ideologies. VPN USA is an independent 501c3 non-profit. The RESTORE Project (https://www.restore-project.org/) is our inaugural pilot project in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
