POSITION SUMMARY:
The Tech Academy Instructor II is responsible for conducting CompTIA A+ track computer training and professional development certification classes through the Goodwill Tech Academy to prepare students to enter the information technology sector. The Instructor II will focus on high-level IT instruction with opportunities to support entry-level IT programming, and create a positive learning environment that supports the unique needs and experiences of each client. This position will also provide support and customized training to Goodwill team members at several locations in our service territory with the goal of improving their success through digital literacy. The Tech Academy Instructor II will also collaborate closely with the Career Services team to identify employment opportunities for program participants.
The CompTIA A+ credential is preferred; however, we are willing to cover the cost of the credential!
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate admissions, assessment, and intake processes for Goodwill Tech Academy applicants to ensure successful achievement of learning outcomes.
- Work with Career Services, Welcome Center, and other Goodwill departments to coordinate unified plans for service delivery and employment goals.
- Facilitate classes/workshops following approved curriculum to participants and staff virtually and on-site at Goodwill of Southwestern PA.
- Maintain accurate client records, including documentation of in-person and virtual services, assessments badging, and test scores, and input data for use in Goodwill Tech Academy reporting.
- Crosstrain under Career Services team to provide support for virtual and in-person work readiness instruction as needed and deliver initial digital and vocational assessments to customers.
- Identify and prioritize improvement areas especially related to maintaining updated curriculum and employer/client demand for specific skillsets.

External Hiring Range: $41,756.00 up to $43,426.24/year
Schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) with 3 evening shifts per week. Schedule can vary depending on site and department needs.
Travel Required: Yes, travel to Goodwill locations in Southwestern Pennsylvania and North Central West Virginia may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent AND 6 years of experience OR
- Associate degree AND 4 years of experience OR
- Bachelor's degree AND 2 years of experience
Required Degree(s): Education, Teaching, Psychology, Rehabilitation Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Social Work, Adult Education, Instructional Design, or related field.
Required Experience: Experience working in, or teaching Information Technology required.
Preferred Experience: CompTIA A+ credential and experience with providing hybrid instruction.
REQUIRED CLEARANCES, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Candidates are expected to provide current, valid clearances (Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints Clearance, and PATCH) prior to their first day of employment.
- Must obtain CompTIA A+ credential within the first 6 months of employment.
