Member and Program Manager
The Beacon, an initiative of The Friendship Circle of Pittsburgh, is a community space where teens of all abilities can find support for their mental health and learn ways to strengthen their overall well-being. Emotional literacy, mindfulness, self-awareness, and advocacy are all core principles of The Beacon and its programming. As with all Friendship Circle programs, The Beacon is structured to be fully accessible and inclusive, both in terms of the physical layout and the mindset that permeates the space. It’s a mental health resource that’s available free of charge to the local teen community.
Principal Duties
Managing recruitment and member intake process for The Beacon
- Recruiting members (Friendship Circle, local schools, etc. )
- Managing and implementing intake processes for new members
- Maintains strict confidentiality
- Point of contact for members and families
Engages teens in 1-1 & group discussions about wellness & mental health
- Provides effective and brief therapeutic interventions with teen members who are seeking support.
- Provides required documentation in a timely manner, which may include member intake, follow-up or safety planning.
- Adheres to agency policies, procedures, and professional code of ethics.
- Thorough understanding of mandated reported protocols.
- Skilled in crisis intervention
Programming lead for The Beacon
- Helping to develop and implement protocols for programming at The Beacon
- Following program timeline for the semi-structured and structured time at The Beacon
- Including but not limited to coordinating reservations, coordinating technology needs, creating materials for bags and programs, and ordering/shopping for supplies for events.
Managing the space at The Beacon
- Admin work related to the facility (ex: mail, utilities, billing, stocking fridge and other supplies, etc.)
Manage Teen Wellness Committee
- Develop, implement, and manage Teen Wellness Space Committee meetings
- Support teen leaders in their roles
- Communicates expectations to staff post-meetings
Managing the Social Media account of The Beacon
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Mental Health field (MSW/LSW/LCSW, LPC, PsyD, MPH, MEd etc.)
- Minimum work experience: 3 years
- Experience working with teen population.
- At least 1 year of experience working with people with disabilities is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of inclusive mental health care.
- Crisis intervention training and ability to assess for Red Flags

- Excellent ability to connect with teenagers
- Ability to provide unbiased and flexible approaches to supporting different mental health needs of the members

- Possesses basic computer skills and support capacity in MS Office Suite, Windows Desktop OS, MS Office operating systems, and related hardware and software.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
