To further our mission we are looking for a Grant Writer.

Position Overview:

The Grant Writer will report to the Vice President of Real Estate Development and work as an integral member of a vibrant and growing real estate and community development department responsible for innovative projects throughout the Pittsburgh region. All of our real estate work supports ACTION-Housing’s mission: to empower people to build more secure and self-sufficient lives through the provision of decent, affordable housing, essential supportive services, asset building programs, and education and employment opportunities.

The Grant Writer will be responsible for development activities with foundations, corporations and government funding sources under the direction of the Vice President of Real Estate Development. The Grant Writer also works closely with the Executive Director. While this position will be housed within Real Estate Development and will assist with procuring funding for affordable housing development projects, this position will also work with service programs on grant procurement and will develop a system for tracking grants throughout the agency.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as the point person within ACTION-Housing for grant procurement and administration, both for real estate development and for our supportive service programs.
  • Work with senior management and the Executive Director to develop a system for managing and tracking grant activity throughout the organization.
  • Work with senior management to develop funding strategies to support ACTION priorities & mission work, including conducting local and national research on foundation, government and corporate funding prospects.
  • Cultivate and steward outstanding relationships with funding partners.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding partners.
  • Write and submit compelling grant applications to foundations, corporations and government agencies to secure maximum support for ACTION needs.
  • Submit in a timely manner comprehensive reports to funding agencies.
  • Assist staff in designing programs that will appeal to funders.
  • Assist ACTION staff with drafting smaller value proposals. Help develop staff capacity to handle smaller grants themselves.

Job Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • At least three years’ experience preferred in grant writing, fundraising, affordable housing, and/or non-profit administration or another related field.
  • Experience in preparation of proposals for philanthropic support and government funding programs at the federal, state, and/or local levels.
  • A broad knowledge of the principles and practices of grant program development and administration as well as experience in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement.
  • Ability to multi-task and successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines; incisive attention to detail without losing sight of overarching strategy.
  • Exemplary written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to synthesize and convey complex information succinctly, clearly, persuasively, and tailored to different audiences as needed.
  • Well-organized, detail oriented, and excellent analytical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Word.
