As a Membership/Volunteer Coordinator, you will be key to keeping our Lifelong Learning Institute running. 

Who you’ll work for:

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is an independent nonprofit organization that offers educational and cultural experiences in a stimulating environment to older adult members. The Institute provides non-credit, non-degree-granting programs, as well as special cultural and social events, and encourages active participation by members in a voluntary capacity.

You will be employed by Osher at CMU, not Carnegie Mellon University.

 What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate as an integral member of a small, fun and highly collaborative staff operating in an open, fast-paced environment. Must have the ability to multitask with frequent disruptions to assist members/staff. All staff members are cross trained to assist with primary processes in the office.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with all members of the Osher community.
  • Enlist classroom volunteers for in-person and online courses. Provide training and support for recruited volunteers.
  • Manage Zoom courses and provide Zoom support for instructors.
  • Assist with membership enrollment, course registrations, cancellations and attendance.
  • Manage day-to-day office tasks. Respond to questions regarding membership, volunteering, and teaching.
  • Serve on the Membership/Social Committee. Attend regular meetings and coordinate the welcome desk volunteers.
  • Manage volunteer database and provide training for its use.
  • Enjoy working in an educational setting with a senior population and remain sensitive to the challenges of an aging population.   
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will embody the Osher at CMU values of mutual respect, integrity, and civil discourse.

What you’ll need:

  • College degree in a relevant business/information technology field or equivalent experience. Work experience may qualify in lieu of a degree.
  • Enthusiastic customer service skills.
  • Desire and ability to work as a synergistic team member in a small, open layout, fast-paced office.
  • Attention to detail and effective organizational skills and time management.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including technical writing and proof-reading.
  • Technology proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Zoom. Ability to quickly acquire database skills. Working understanding of databases including Augusoft and Volgistics are a plus.
