Job Title: After School Club Program Assistant

Job Status: Part-time

Hourly rate: $17

Start date: October, 2022

People of color and those with immigrant backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply

The Program Assistant will work alongside the Program Director to implement the After School Club and take the lead on facilitating workshops and coordinating volunteers to provide dedicated support to high school seniors in preparing for life after graduation.

The After School Club (ASC) is organized by ARYSE and Duquesne University and aims to help newcomer immigrant and refugee high school students living in Allegheny County overcome educational and social barriers that often hinder successful integration. ASC is held at Duquesne University on Tuesday and Thursday each week during the academic year (early October through late May) from 3:30pm-6:00pm, and primarily focuses on academic support, development of social and life skills, and college and career preparation for the students. The Program Assistant will report to and collaborate directly with the After School Club Program Director to successfully implement all aspects of the ASC, with a distinct focus and leadership on implementing college and career readiness activities at the program.

In addition to working alongside the After School Club Director to support the post-secondary goals of youth enrolled in ASC, the Program Assistant will organize weekly meetings, i.e. Future Planning Workshops, for high school seniors and some recent graduates to gain individualized post-secondary readiness mentorship to help navigate the college search process from application to enrollment. This will involve facilitating and leading Future Planning Workshops every Wednesday during the school year for group discussions about the college application process, to hear from guest speakers from local colleges and universities, and to work 1-on-1 with volunteer mentors. Additionally, the Assistant will schedule regular individual meetings with participating students to monitor progress toward their post-secondary goals.

During the summer months, the Program Assistant will continue working alongside the ASC Program Director to reflect on the prior school year, collect and analyze outcome data, support high school seniors transition to college/careers, and/or provide support to students attending the ARYSE summer program, PRYSE Academy.
