Director of Development
To work with the Executive Director, the Director of Conference Formation, and the Board of Directors to enhance, cultivate and grow a comprehensive development and fund-raising program that meets the short- and long-term goals and needs of the organization, and to enhance the mission established by the Board of Directors. Responsibilities will include strategic and analysis planning, fundraising campaigns, managing major gift development and memorial/tribute planning, and demonstrating management leadership as part of the senior staff of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Central Council of Pittsburgh (SVDP) responsibilities while supporting the organization mission and policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages and collaborates with the Executive Director in planning of development activities; oversees execution of strategic development plan that includes managing portfolios of corporate, foundation, and individual prospects.
- Establishes annual monetary goals and provides regular updates to Executive Director.
- Writes proposals for funding and manages efforts of internal and external grant writing.
- Participates in vendor partner selection, control, and management for organizational developmental and marketing, accounts for disbursement of all funds.
- Manages actual fundraising and development process, ensures accurate records of receipts and accounts for disbursement of all funds. Reconciles development revenue with accounting office.
- Serves as key development liaison to the Board of Directors and the Development Committee to provide direction and support for board fundraising efforts.
- Assists with developing fundraising literature suitable for individual and corporate entities.
- Works with the Executive Director to identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts, planned giving prospects, corporate and foundation grants.
- Analyzes donor database to develop and oversee individual Major Gift prospects and donors, and corporate and foundation grants.
- Plans and manages a planned giving program, gifts, memorials, tributes, and other recognition of donors including managing in-kind donations.
- Manages direct mail program management, database issues, database development and administrative support for major donors and grants.
- Builds strong relationship with individuals, corporate sponsors, and other partner organizations and businesses. Acts as the United Way liaison and speaker.
- Travels, when necessary, for donor relations. Work venues may vary (office, social events, presentations, meetings, individual interactions) including some evenings and weekends.

- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possess excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Demonstrated experience in working in a non-profit organization strategizing and implementing fundraising activities, securing public and private grants, soliciting organizations and businesses for donations and services for the betterment of the organization, or equivalent.
- The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 10 pounds.
- The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and have close vision for electronic and paper detail work.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, and be able to sit and operate a vehicle.
