The Community and Economic Development Manager builds meaningful relationships with community residents and stakeholders, internally, and externally, in a bid to revitalize the Homewood neighborhood with resident-led input and plans. This also includes working with community members to improve vacant and abandoned spaces, manage affordable home ownership projects, seek and manage local and state funding opportunities, and help connect Homewood residents with a variety of different partners to provide new, needed, and unique opportunities.


Project Management

  • Work daily with Homewood residents in guiding them through the homeowner stabilization process, such as: helping them obtain deeds to their home, working collaboratively with a consulting attorney and other partners, taking steps to obtain wills, and apply for tax relief programming.
  • Help residents apply for in-house, and outside partner’s home repair programming.
  • Assist in the predevelopment, and on-going project management of affordable home ownership and commercial projects in Homewood.
  • Submit monthly and yearly program and project reports.
  • Collaborate with OBB supervisors for identifying, applying for, and securing additional program funding.

Community Organizing and Planning

  • Support the coordination of resources, activities and events for Operation Better Block projects and organizing efforts.
  • Support organization in the collection and regular updates of community demographics and statistical data for creative problem solving, program development, and record keeping. 
  • Establish and/or facilitate agency-based relationships with service providers and programs impacting the physical and social revitalization of Homewood.
  • Actively work with organization’s community-wide plan to ensure that equitable, resident-driven development is occurring in Homewood.
  • Represent OBB at local events, community gatherings, workshops, trainings and to community leaders, local politicians and community-based organizations.
  • Perform any other community organizing activities as assigned.


  • Supervise interns that may join the community and economic development department, including determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance.
  • Conduct orientation for interns.
  • Encourage staff/intern development and education around community and economic development.
  • Foster a team-oriented, supportive, accountable work environment.
