Job Summary: The Coordinator, Community & Partner Services connects with and creates opportunities for individuals and organizations who would like to offer their services or gain experience at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. This includes partners, volunteers and interns. The Coordinator serves our community by developing partnerships with organizations that share CLP’s values, and by making connections between CLP and community members who are interested in contributing to library services. They lead the development of programs for partners, volunteers, and interns that provide maximum outcomes.

The Coordinator of Community & Partner Services works in the Office of Programs & Partnerships (OPP). OPP leads the vision, development, and evaluation of programmatic services to equitably meet the needs of the library’s various audiences. The Coordinator will work with staff throughout the system to identify and build on current successful partner programming and outreach models. They are the welcoming presence for new and existing partnerships to CLP, acting as a guide to connect them with Library staff and services. They understand the power of partners, volunteers, interns to amplify community voices, shape library service, and to enrich lives with meaningful experiences.

Location: Office of Programs & Partnerships, East Liberty

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday-Friday, plus extended hours as needed, on a regular basis

Salary: $60,000-64,000 per year, DOE

  • Plan, direct, oversee, and coordinate community-focused programmatic services for partners, volunteers and interns;
  • Prioritize relationships with partners and community organizations who are dedicated to equitable and inclusive practices and help CLP achieve diversity in programs;
  • Establish and nurture relationships with regional stakeholders, area cultural, recreational, and educational services to enhance and diversify our offerings and program referrals;
  • Develop tools, opportunities and best practices for engaging partners, volunteers, interns and community organizations to make service easier, more equitable, and more efficient;
  • Ensure the library is a presence at community events by coordinating outreach experiences;
  • Strategically determine functions for which each volunteer, intern, or partner is best suited to ensure that their time is used to best meet the needs of the library, while maximizing their satisfaction;
  • Engage with all CLP locations on a regular basis to maintain communication with volunteers, partners and staff;
  • Serve as an advocate and subject area leader for volunteers, interns and partners throughout the system, making connections to other service areas and providing input for CLP initiatives;
  • Lead professional development for staff throughout the CLP system on the best practices for partner, volunteer and intern engagement and outreach;
  • Propose and develop projects for funding and manage multiple grants and endowments for special projects;
  • Prepare budgets, goals and objectives, and manage staff of Community & Partner Services;
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records of work performed, prepare clear and concise reports to monitor and evaluate the success of the Community & Partner Services department.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university;
  • Five years of progressive experience and increasing responsibility in a public library, including demonstrated leadership;
  • Experience in community relations, programming and outreach;
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally and nationally as required;
  • Knowledge of uses of metrics and statistics to assess the effectiveness of services and programs and to determine and measure outcomes and impact;
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in and beyond the library arena and the ability to provide a rich and creative understanding of their implications for effective library outreach and programming;
  • Ability to understand CLP’s organization, services, locations and policies;
  • Ability to develop and maintain fruitful relationships throughout the library and the community;
  • Ability to develop an understanding of the political and community structure in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County and gain the confidence of elected officials, members of the public and CLP Board and staff;
  • Ability to work with communities and engage people outside the library walls through various channels, including neighborhood meetings, community-based organizations and groups, networking, Internet-based social media and the like;
  • Ability to establish an environment of open, honest communication and rational decision-making, and the ability to negotiate with all levels of staff to accomplish the mission and goals of the Library;
  • Ability to work interdepartmentally and achieve consensus, coordinate with internal and external constituencies;
  • Ability to Work in conjunction with the grant manager and development department to create and manage grant supported programs and deliverables;
  • Ability to create and manage budgets and related activities;
  • Strong, inclusive leadership skills; an experienced leader, and a collaborative team player;
  • Communication including diplomacy, tact, excellent listening skills, strong group facilitation skills, and analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Articulate a vision and strategic direction to a wide variety of audiences; flexibility and adaptability; and a willingness to embrace and drive change initiatives.

  • PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check, and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
